The ultimate race with no finish has arrived on the Gold Coast.

The details:

What is a backyard ultra?


Essentially, you have one hour to run on yard (6.71km). The next yard starts every hour, on the hour. If you don’t complete the yard in an hour, fail to start or decide not to continue you’re out. The race continues until there is only one person left standing.

When and where?


On Friday the 13th of March, 2026, the inaugural Gold Coast BYU will commence at Doug Jennings Park, Main Beach.

Runner’s will commence their first yard at 4pm, and will aim to run one yard every hour, on the hour, until they can no longer continue.

It’s a race against yourself, your own distance personal bests, and your mind.

The Course?


The entire course will be marked, so you will not have to download a GPX file (however, we will have it for you if you’d prefer). This course combines all - terrain from road, to grass, to trail to beach so please prepare for all options.

Elevation: 16m ascend, 19m descend.
